Update Duo Mobile

If you’re using the popular multi-factor authentication (MFA) application Duo, you’ll need to update it to ensure you still receive push notifications. In this blog, we’re sharing what ADNET recommends, the actions we’re taking for our managed clients, and what to expect if you don’t make the updates.

TL;DR: Make sure the Duo Mobile app on your phone (and any other Duo software you use) is updated before March 31, 2026. Duo Mobile must be version 4.85.0 or later to continue receiving Duo push notifications.

What’s changing with the Duo Mobile app?

Duo has updated its certificate authority (CA) pinning bundle. The older CA bundle is being deprecated after March 31. This means that Duo applications that still rely on the older bundle need to be updated to newer versions that include the updated CA.

What happens if I don’t update my Duo Mobile app?

If Duo components are not updated by the deadline, you may stop receiving push notifications. Some legacy integrations could also fail, preventing users from authenticating.

What ADNET is doing for its managed clients

ADNET has reviewed Duo applications running on servers and has already applied required updates where possible for our managed clients. If an update must be performed by your organization (or by a third-party vendor), we will notify the appropriate contacts.

It’s important to note that because Duo Mobile lives on personal devices, ADNET cannot update phones directly. Each device owner is responsible for updating the app. We recommend sharing this blog with them along with the expectation that they will update their devices to ensure that their application doesn’t experience issues.

What you need to do to update Duo Mobile

In most cases, the updates can be done quickly and with minimal effort:

  • If your phone has automatic updates enabled, you may already be on a compliant version.
  • Navigate to your application settings and take a moment to confirm your Duo Mobile version is 4.85.0 or later (full instructions to do this are below). If you’re already on 4.85.0 or newer, there’s nothing else you need to do.
  • If you are below 4.85.0, update Duo Mobile from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

How to check your Duo Mobile app version

  1. Open the Duo Mobile app.
  2. Tap the menu icon (three lines) in the top-left corner.
  3. Look at the version number at the bottom of the menu screen.
  4. Confirm it is 4.85.0 or later.

To update Duo Mobile, open your app store, search for “Duo Mobile,” and tap Update.
